Association DANAYA
Niamakoro - Bamako

In this very poor suburb of Bamako, young people have no prospects and many of them are driven into crime. The inhabitants decided to create an artistic and cultural troupe to combat insecurity, keep them occupied and give them hope.

This troupe allowed young people from the neighbourhood to meet in a common place to discuss the troupe’s activities and to rehearse.

The population’s support for this cultural project was total: a mixed association, Danaya, was created to organise these activities and manage the project.

From being a cultural association for the young people of the neighbourhood, Danaya has diversified, creating a social centre (1996), a community school (1997) and a cooperative and football centre (1998).
